The use of Wiki while Maritime English teaching on LMS MOODLE
Forced transition to the remote mode of learning in conditions of martial law has made Kherson State Maritime Academy (KSMA) as maritime higher education istitution (HEI) in the south of Ukraine to change its traditional way of maritime education and training (MET) [1]. LMS MOODLE was chosen as free, easy-to-use platform. Maritime English is considered to be one of the most important courses while MET. English is used by seafarers not only while working but also to find shipboard practice. To engage cadets in e-learning many internal and external activities on LMS MOODLE were used [2]. The examples of external tools Maritime English teachers use while classes online are the following:
- Miro
- Mentimeter
- leaningapps.org
- Whitboard.fi
- YouTube
- others
The internal activities which LMS MOODLE (KSMA uses 4.2.2+ version) proposes are illustrated in the Figure 1 below:

Project Based Learning (PBL) is also very popular teaching method among Maritime English tutors. It offers a student-centered, inquiry-based approach to MET that promotes deep learning, critical thinking, collaboration, and real-world application of knowledge [3]. To create PBL tasks on LMS MOODLE various activities can be used.
The example of Glossary's use while PBL is given below:

The Glossary in this case helps ship engineering department cadets to build background knowledge and familiarize themselves with the vocabulary they will encounter throughout the project. Another activities used while PBL are: Lessons, Quizzes, Assignments, Forums, H5P and others [4].
Another interesting and underrated activity on LMS MOODLE which is used while PBL by Maritime English teachers is Wiki. In our opinion it can can greatly enhance collaboration, organization, and documentation of the project. Wiki is used on LMS MOODLE of KSMA as a platform for collaborative planning among project team members. Cadets can create pages or sections for brainstorming ideas, setting goals, defining roles and responsibilities, and establishing timelines [5]. Maritime English teachers encourage their cadets to contribute the ideas and suggestions to ensure a shared vision for the project they create together.
Sometimes Wiki can be used by course tutor as a tool to check cadets' knowledge (e.g. by the end of the topic/module/year). The example of such Wiiki i given in the Figure below:

Cadet's task was to create or question or to answer the question.
We concluded that the use of Wiki while MET on LMS MOODLE helps Maritime English teachers to facilitate collaboration, organization, and documentation of the projects while promoting critical thinking, communication, and digital literacy skills among cadets of meritime HEI.
